When you want to cook for your dog it is important that you make sure that the diet has all the nutrients your dog needs, especially if it is a diet which you want to feed to your dog for a longer period. A complete diet exists out of a protein source, a carbohydrate source, a fat source and has to be supplemented with enough vitamins and minerals. For this a vitamin and minerals supplement can be used (TROVET Balance).
TROVET supports home cookers with Unique Protein products. These are products which contain pure meat, without additives such as conservatives and seasoning. The products are available in the protein sources: lamb, rabbit, venison, turkey and horse. Potato and rice are advised to be used as a carbohydrate source. With the help of a hypoallergenic vitamin and mineral mix (TROVET Balance) a complete, natural and responsible meal can be made. When your dog has the need for extra energy, this can be supplied in the form of vegetable oils such as corn oil, sunflower oil, linseed oil and olive oil. Always consult your veterinarian about a right food advice for your dog.

When your dog is being treated with a different dietary food for a different condition and also develops struvite, it is not recommended to just switch to a struvite preventive diet. Your veterinarian will decide if this is possible. The most important function of an anti-struvite diet is lowering the urinary pH. When the pH of the urine is low enough, struvite stone formation will be prevented. It is also possible to lower the urine pH by supplying specific supplements, like TROVET Anti Struvite | UAS. This way your dog can stay on the current diet and still have the favourable acidic urine. Always consult your veterinarian before treating your dog with acidifying supplements. When your dog suffers from kidney failure, acidic urine is not desirable.
Urinary Struvite is definitely not suited for puppies. The acidifying effect of the food can be harmful for the health of the young animal, mostly for the development of the bones. Next to this, the protein content of the diet is too low to support decent growth of the puppy.
No, TROVET does not have an anti-struvite diet with a lowered energy content.
Urinary Struvite is especially formulated to lower the urinary pH, adjust the mineral excretion and increase the urine volume. It does not have an anti-inflammatory effect.
Yes, they can. Urinary Struvite prevents the formation of struvite stones. It is important that your dog is healthy and does not suffer from another type of bladder stones. Consult your veterinarian when in doubt.
Anti-struvite diets are not suited for puppies because of the acidifying effect on the urine.
This is dependent on the cause of the bladder problem. When your dog was suffering from struvite without a clear cause, there will be a greater chance that the struvite will return when switching back to the original food. In these cases it is wise to feed a struvite prevention diet for a longer period. However, in some cases, when there is a clear cause for the bladder stones, for example an inflammation, it is not necessary to keep your dog on an anti-struvite diet. Always consult your veterinarian before you decide to switch back to regular food. Anti Struvite Diet is not suited for kittens because of the acidic effect.
