Generally it is advised to switch after the biggest growth spurt. The age when switching differs for small and large breeds. Small breeds have the biggest growth spurt around five or six months of age and can be fed regular maintenance food from that moment. For large breed dogs this happens around ten to twelve months of age. Consult your veterinarian when it is the best moment to switch to maintenance food for adult dogs.
