Supplements for dogs

Supplements are meant to complement a diet. The TROVET range contains five supplements: Anti Struvite, Balance, Digestion Support, Intestinal Support and Mobility.

Anti Struvite
Bladder problems in the form of struvite grit or stones are common in dogs and cats. A thorough treatment is required in that case. Nutrition usually plays an important role in the treatment. In some cases it is not possible to treat the condition with dietary food. A dietary supplement can then offer a solution. Anti Struvite reduces the urinary pH, creating a less favourable environment for the formation of struvite. The dietary supplement is hypoallergenic and suitable to be combined with a hypoallergenic diet, in the case of food hypersensitivity.

Balance
A self-prepared elimination diet is not balanced and can lead to nutritional deficiencies when given for a longer time. These deficiencies can sometimes already be seen after three weeks. For critically ill animals, growing animals, animals in the final stage of pregnancy and lactating animals, a vitamin and mineral mix should be added immediately at the start of the elimination phase.

Balance is the ideal supplement for self-prepared and nutritionally incomplete diets. The supplement can be given temporarily (during the elimination phase), but also for life (as an addition to a self-prepared diet). Balance is formulated to be hypoallergenic, has a neutral flavour and is easy to dose.

Digestion Support
Pancreas problems occur in dogs and cats of all ages and cause a lot of pain. The pancreas is an indispensable organ in food digestion, due to the production and release of digestive enzymes. Without the action of amylase, lipase and proteases, carbohydrates, fats and proteins are too large to be absorbed by the intestinal wall. The nutrients can not be absorbed and used by the body, but end up the large intestine. This can lead to diarrhoea and weight loss. In pancreatic problems, insufficient enzymes reach the duodenum or the production of enzymes is too low.

Medication and nutrition play an important role in the treatment. Usually, an easily digestible, low-fat diet is prescribed. In some cases, this diet is sufficient to support animals with pancreatic disorders. Digestion Support is a dietary supplement that contains lipase, amylase and protease, to benefit the digestion of fat, carbohydrates and proteins to compensate for poor digestion in pancreatic diseases, such as acute and chronic pancreatitis and EPI. Digestion Support is hypoallergenic and suitable to be combined with a hypoallergenic diet in the case of food hypersensitivity.

Intestinal Support
Intestinal problems regularly occur in dogs and cats. Many underlying causes can be the cause of these problems. Easily digestible food can help to relieve the digestive system. Sometimes extra support is required. A dietary supplement can then offer a solution. Intestinal Support can be used in the treatment of an imbalance of intestinal microflora, bacterial intestinal infections and food poisoning.

Fermentable fibres, called fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), to stimulate the growth of ‘good bacteria’ in the intestine. Manno-oligosaccharides (MOS) for a positive effect on intestinal health. Beta glucans to stimulate the immune system. Bentonite to bind heavy metals, toxins and pathogenic bacteria. Psyllium to prevent the passage of excessive moisture through the intestinal tract and help prevent obstipation.

Hypoallergenic dietary supplement, suitable to be combined with a hypoallergenic diet in case of food hypersensitivity.

Mobility
For a healthy joint, a balance between glycosaminoglycan (GAGs) breakdown and synthesis is needed. A disruption of this balance increases the risk of joint problems. For optimal joint health, the availability of appropriate quantities of the entire range of GAGs is required. Mobility is a natural dietary supplement, without any added conservatives, to support the joints of dogs. This supplement contains the GAGs glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate and the precursors heparin, keratin sulphate and dermatan sulphate from green-lipped mussel, abalone and cartilage from fish.

Mobility can be used preventively in animals that have an above average load on their joints and have an increased risk of joint problems. This includes working dogs or dogs that practice agility, but also as preparation for joint surgery. This supplement can pre-eminently be used when the patient already receives dietary food and requires joint support. Mobility can be safely combined with medication for pain relief (NSAIDs). In puppies under six months of age, there is risk of diarrhoea.
